What strategies do you use to maintain your health and well-being?
These strategies work for me:
1. Physical exercise for the body every day is a must. For me, I love to jog or run. It makes me feel good like nothing else does. It’s how I start my day, every day. I run on the treadmill now but I still enjoy the occasional outside run.
Someone once asked me how I got up early every day to do this. My response was just like Nike, Just do it. I don’t think about it because it’s like brushing my teeth. So getting into the mindset of not thinking about it, and just doing it, has been a game changer. Plus I enjoy it! So, like I tell my students, find a practice you enjoy.
2. Some type of meditation/mindfulness practice, whether it’s movement based or not, helps. I love Heart Math. It connects me to my heart and I only need 5 to 10 minutes daily to maintain peace and well being. Other activities I enjoy are sitting in nature, taking pictures and observing what’s in front of me.
3. Eating foods that work for my body is important. Based on trial and error I’ve discovered a diet that works for me and makes me feel good.
4. Those three Strategies, as well as a love for what I do, can maintain health and well being. If I don’t love what I do, I remind myself that I have the power to turn any situation into gold. I have had much practice on this and it’s empowering! 😁 Simply, it is an amazing feeling when faced with challenges we choose to flip the switch and remember that our happiness is an inside job. Nobody has the power to give it to us or take it away. Inner affirmations work for me.
And if and when it feels right, we can go about exploring something else. Authenticity is our right.
